On April 2nd 2010 Ready Set Go was involved in another signature Melbourne event. The Good Friday Appeal was on again for the 79th time.
It is a huge event for a worthy cause, with a live telecast on Channel Seven airing from Etihad Stadium and around the state for the duration day. We’re very proud to have been involved in helping produce the telethon for Channel Seven for a number of years, helping raise money for the Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital.
The job involves working very closely with the two Channel Seven production teams who create the onscreen content, while we co-ordinate the production as well as the 200-seat telephone room and manage the event as a whole. The set this year was refurbished and repainted at our workshop in Clifton Hill.The venue itself, while ideal for the event, also presents some specific challenges. Some years we have had a night match in the middle of our production week to contend with. This year, fierce storms in the month prior to the event also caused significant water damage to the function room.
It is a long day for everyone involved and a fairly complex job, but our team of experienced suppliers as well as the excellent Channel Seven production staff ensure that nothing is left to chance and that everything runs smoothly and is up to the standard of live television for a commercial network.
Each year we are struck by the overwhelming generosity of people who donate to the Appeal. This year was no exception and once again Australians donated in record amounts, with the Appeal raising a massive total of $14,462,000. Thank you to everyone who donated and all who were involved.
