The Myer Christmas Parade is an annual event presented by Myer as a public gift to the people of Melbourne. It provides free quality entertainment, community involvement, and support for Melbourne’s retailers at the beginning of the busy Christmas shopping season.
2010 was the fifth year Myer has presented this parade, and the fourth year Myer contracted Ready Set Go [RSG] to fully create and produce the event.
After dealing with extreme heat during the 2009 parade, Mother Nature again threw RSG a challenge and it poured with rain all day. Just another day at the office for this slick team of professionals…
The 2010 parade included 11 custom designed floats. Twenty-two community groups ranging from marching bands to dance groups, choirs, sporting clubs and emergency services were involved in the parade. Community participants ranged in age from 6 year olds to adults. A select group of sporting stars and celebrities were involved including AFL Players, NRL Players, Netball stars, FFA players and other media personalities. Other roving entertainment, costumed characters and giant inflatables were included in the parade program.
On the day of the parade the RSG production team managed more than 30 suppliers, 500 staff, 1200 performers, sports stars, celebrities…and the list goes on. A mammoth task, but that’s what we do.
Now stay tuned for the 2011 Myer Christmas Spectacular…an all new format coming to the Bourke Street Mall on Saturday 19th November, 2011!
